Ned and Mary Esther Kemper

Ned and Mary Esther Kemper, Windfall, will celebrate 71 years of marriage with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 14 at Rock Prairie Church, 421 Ash St., Tipton. Friends and neighbors are invited to join the celebration.

Ned and the former Mary Esther Hinds were married Oct. 12, 1941, in Windfall Christian Church by Ned’s brother-in-law, the Rev. Robert Wilburn.

Mary Esther served as Tipton County deputy auditor and assessor for several years and worked in the office at Pioneer Hybrid in Tipton. Until recently, she was active in Tipton County Home Makers Club.

Ned was a machinist in the Army Air Corps during World War II and farmed in Tipton County for more than 75 years. He is the last surviving charter member of the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department and served for more than 50 years.

Both are still active in Gideons International.

They are the parents of Carolyn and husband Logan Miner-Sparling, Kokomo, and Kenneth and wife Kaye Kemper, Windfall. Their grandchildren are Scott and wife Christie Miner, Memphis, Tenn.; Tim and wife Heather Miner, Westfield; Chris and wife Laurie Miner, Columbia City; Angela and husband Raymond Grimes, Windfall; and William Kemper, Windfall. They have 10 great-grandchildren.
