Fred and Marjorie Whitacre will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 28, 2010, and the Main Street Christian Church, Russiaville.
Fred and the former Marjorie Myers were married Aug. 26, 1950, at the West Walnut Street Church of Christ in Portland by Marshall Weaver.
Fred worked at the Drop Forge in Portland until they decided to go into Christian ministry. Last year marked the 50th anniversary of Fred’s ordination.
They have six children and four of them are in the ministry with their spouses. They are Susan and Junior Little, Nashville, Tenn.; Mike and Peggy Whitacre, ministering in Whitesville; Kathy and Mike Girton, missionaries to the Dominican Republic, presently living in Cincinnati, Ohio; Ron and Diane Whitacre, ministering in Bluff City, Tenn.; David and Kim Whitacre, Springfield, Ohio; and Christina and Bill Collins, ministering in Walton. They have 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
