Domestic dispute results in arrest

Kokomo police arrested a Kokomo man early Sunday afternoon on several felony charges, after an alleged domestic disturbance.

A female victim told police Richard F. Lewis Jr., 29, grabbed her by the throat and dragged her by the hair while children were present in her home.

The woman said she arrived home around noon Sunday, less than a day after she said Lewis had come to her home making various threats.

Upon entering the house, in the 400 block of West Havens Street, the woman said she found Lewis Jr. inside, going through her refrigerator. She told police she watched Lewis drink more than a fifth of spirits before yelling at him to leave.

According to police reports, Lewis Jr. first assaulted the woman, and then, after a child ran from the home to get help, Lewis Jr. walked outside the home and let it be known he’d shoot anyone who attempted to leave. The victim said Lewis Jr. left in a red pickup truck before police arrived. Police caught up with Lewis Jr. a short time later at his residence, in the 1000 block of East North Street.

Lewis faces a Class A felony burglary charge, along with Class D felony charges of domestic violence, intimidation and criminal recklessness. He was being held at the Howard County jail Monday without bail.
