House fire under investigation

Harrison Township and nearby fire departments battled a house fire in western Howard County Saturday evening.

When the first crews arrived about 5:50 p.m. to the house at 1904 S. 600 West, flames were coming from the home and from a van in the driveway, according to reports.

No one was inside the home when fire crews made entry.

No more information was available.

Russiaville and Howard County Emergency Management Agency fire departments assisted with extinguishing the fire. EMA officers also were called for traffic assistance.

One injured in motorcycle crash

Sheriff deputies are investigating a motorcycle accident at 400 South and 900 East that occurred just before 6 p.m. Saturday.

Initial reports said the rider was injured and laying on the ground when Howard County sheriff deputies and emergency personnel arrived. The rider was rushed to Howard Regional Health System for treatment. Lifeline helicopter was placed on stand-by in case the individual needed further treatment.

No further information was available.

Arrests


Friday, 2:21 a.m., police arrested Brandon M. Whittaker, 19, 500 block of West 10th Street, Peru, on a charge of minor consumption of alcohol.

Friday, 6:20 a.m., police arrested Lee M. Reed, 29, 3300 South block of 400 East, Peru, on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief and public intoxication.

Friday, 6 p.m., deputies arrested Joshua T. Hopper, 27, 9500 South block of 150 West, Bunker Hill, on an order to serve 48 hours in jail.
