Lately I have read columns and heard broadcasts by well-known people who say they want President Obama to fail in all the things he is trying to do. I cannot understand how anyone who professes to be an American would make a statement like that.
Sure, there were many who did not vote for him for various reasons. But once he was voted into office, anyone who he is a proud American should honor that choice and hope that he does not fail in getting this country back on its feet. Our freedom is something we Americans are proud of, and voting for our country’s leader is an example of how free we are.
President Obama is our leader, at least for the next four years. We should be proud to be able to see him go right at the problems we face in today’s age of uncertainty.
I have read where people that I thought were proud Americans have from day one tried to run down our president – not only in what he wants to do but also in what he can get done. Folks, we live in a society where the freedoms our ancestors put into motion are slowly being pulled out from under us. We need someone in that top spot to make sure that we prevail in keeping those freedoms.
Sure, he is young in age, but he is an American and seems to be wise. He is our president. We should honor him as such. We should do whatever is needed to help him get things done while in office.
I was skeptical at first. I thought that maybe he was trying too hard, too fast. However, as I listen to him speak, I see a man who is trying to get us back on our feet at a cost to his privacy and of his time spent with his family.
There are some things that he says that sort of make me wonder about his actions, such as pulling troops out of Iraq but sending more troops into Afghanistan. Most who know me will attest to my feelings about our troops and their welfare. I believe that we have too many soldiers all over the world and not enough at home to protect us if and when we need them.
One of my family is in the armed forces, and he is there for the duration. He is all soldier, and he backs his president as Commander In Chief. He is one fine person of 46 years. He is American to the bone, and he will do his best at whatever he is told to do.
Therefore, what I propose to those who are trying to drag our elected president to his knees is this: Try to help our president get his job done while he is in office. Then in 4 years, if you want, you can vote in a new one.
In addition, our representatives in Congress need to stop being party members and be the representatives of the people who expect them to work together, regardless of party ties, and get this country back on its feet. If our elected president fails in what he is trying to do, we are all in the hot pot of despair.
If those who are elected do not try to make it better, they should pack their bags and leave. And to those who write and speak of failure, I say this: Shame on you for your words of harm to our system of government. Shame on you for trying to take our country down.
Take it from a proud American. We cannot and should not fail. Exercise restraint in your thoughts of hate. Give thought to how it can be for those who follow.
