School doesn’t need 2 swimming pools
In regard to Greg Bevington’s recent letter to the editor regarding the repairs and renovations done at Maconaquah High School, I have a couple of questions. Is it true there are two Olympic size swimming pools at this school? Are these two pools part of the renovation and repair to be part of the multimillion dollar renovation?
Why does a school in a small town in Indiana need two swimming pools? Does Peru High School and North Miami High School have swimming pools? If your response is that these two schools have access to one or both of the Maconaquah High School pools, then my response to this is “that’s nice.”
I just wonder how many people who will be voting June 20 realize there are two pools located at this school?

There’s hate coming from talkers on left
I would like to respond to Mr. Dick’s article on the Opinion page on June 11. Mr. Dick’s opinion that conservative talk show hosts are to blame for violence is an absolute outrage. Using Mr. Dick’s logic, I would like to point out some of the violence that has come from the left.
We have the Unibomber and his terrorist activities that were brought about by a deranged view of the environment. Should we blame Al Gore for the Unibomber’s actions? What about ELF? How much damage has it done to private property? It is the No. 1 domestic terror organization in the U.S.
Go back to the ’60s and ’70s. What about the Weathermen? Oh wait, we can’t talk about that organization since one of its former members has ties to the current president.
All you have to do to understand how much hatred is on the left is to turn on the Keith Olbermann show. I can only stand about five minutes of his show before I have to turn the channel because of all of the hatred he churns up. How many leftist terrorists is he inspiring to commit violent acts?
It’s amazing to me that people like this are in the media, both Mr. Dick and Mr. Olbermann.

Make clean energy a federal priority
I read recently that The Associated Press reported Congress to be abandoning our progress toward clean energy. What is important about this is that Congress’ action will cost us the jobs that the wind/solar industry would create.
I don’t need to get into the clean energy/dirty energy, or the oil dependence, part of the equation. What I want are the new industry growth and jobs! It is a foolish hope to think that the automobile industry will revive and return us to prosperity. I believe that the auto industry is about where the buggy making industry was when Mr. Haynes built his first car.
I am tired of looking woefully at the past. I yearn to look excitedly toward the future. Let’s tell lawmakers to move our state and our country into the 21st century.

Troops need funding
Please keep funding for our troops on bills separate from other funding and get it passed quickly. It’s very important for their morale and safety.
