Vigo Co. deputy facing porn charges waives hearing

TERRE HAUTE (AP) — A western Indiana sheriff's deputy who faces federal child pornography charges has been ordered held until trial after waiving his right to a detention hearing.

Vigo County Sheriff's Deputy James Edward Haley Jr. was arrested last week at his Terre Haute home on one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distributing child pornography. Court documents allege that the 31-year-old Haley had more than 40,000 child porn images stored on his personal computer and an external storage device.

The Tribune-Star reports that Haley had been scheduled for a Thursday detention hearing in U.S. District Court in Terre Haute, but he waived his right to that hearing. Magistrate Craig McKee ordered Haley detained at a corrections facility pending trial.

Haley's trial date has not been set.
