SOUTH BEND (AP) — State Police say a state trooper and two motorists were seriously injured when their vehicles collided at a rural northern Indiana intersection.
Thursday night's accident left 32-year-old Trooper William B. Ennis hospitalized in stable condition with injuries to his hip and lower extremities.
State Police say a car driven by 19-year-old Robert Lee Perez of Mishawaka entered a rural St. Joseph County intersection about 8 p.m. and was struck broadside by Ennis' police car. Perez was reported in critical condition at a local hospital and his 20-year-old passenger, Danielle Cutler of South Bend, was reported in serious condition.
Investigators say a middle-age white man driving a yellow pickup truck stopped momentarily after the crash and then drove on. State Police are asking possible witnesses to the crash to contact authorities.
