Police: Ind. woman dies in crash along icy highway

VALPARAISO (AP) — State Police are blaming a fatal crash in western Indiana on snowy and icy conditions along Interstate 70 caused by a late winter snowstorm.

Trooper Don Anglin says 36-year-old Tiffany Ann Mikel of Bedford died Tuesday evening when a semi-trailer plowed into her car after she lost control of it merging onto the highway in Putnam County.

Numerous other weather-related accidents were reported across the state following the storm that dumped up to a foot of snow in northern Indiana.

The storm dumped three to five inches of snow across central and north-central Indiana, and one to two inches of snow in southern parts of the state.

Hazardous driving conditions prompted many school districts to delay Wednesday's start of classes to allow crews time to clear roadways.
