Kokomo resident Brian Dunham of Rex Byers Heating and Cooling Systems Inc. has earned certification as a Service Technician for Heating, Cooling, and Heat Pump equipment and systems from North American Technician Excellence.

In order to obtain the certification, Dunham had to pass an exam that reflects industry-wide opinions of what technicians should know.

Dunham is a lead technician for Rex Byers Heating and Cooling and has worked more than 10 years with comfort systems. He graduated from the National Comfort Institute and continues his education through Source One. He also has certification in carbon monoxide remediation.

Events

TIPTON - Courses for volunteer-operated organizations begin Jan. 11 in Tipton.

The Volunteer Leadership Workshop Series runs 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 11, Jan. 25, Feb. 8 and Feb. 22 at the Tipton County Foundation, 1020 W. Jefferson St., Tipton, and 9 a.m. to noon March 3 at the Tipton County Extension Education Center, 1200 S. Main St., Tipton.

The program costs $15 per person per session or $55 per person for the complete series.

The first session on Jan. 11 is titled “Making Meetings Matter and Building Better Boards.”

Mergers

CONVERSE — First Farmers Financial Corp. in Converse has acquired First Citizens of Paris, Ill., as a subsidiary.

First Citizens will merge into First Farmers Bank and Trust, which is a subsidiary of First Farmers Financial Corp.

First Farmers, as of Sept. 30, had $875 million in assets and operated 20 branches in 11 counties throughout North Central Indiana.

First Citizens had $205 million in assets and operated branches in Paris, Ill., Oakland, Ill., and Terre Haute.
