Entering the Bavarian Inn Bed & Breakfast, visitors are welcomed with a warm, friendly greeting from innkeeper Roswitha Wesson.
The 72-year-old native of Germany is queen of the inn that sits atop a hill overlooking Dixon Road.
She greets everyone with a big smile and a hearty welcome thick with her German accent.
A sign at the door, in German, simply states “Willkommen.”
From the roadway, the exterior of the inn resembles a chalet nestled in the mountains of Germany.
Wesson likes it that way.
She’s gone to great lengths to make her visitors feel as if they’re in a European hideaway rather than the west side of Kokomo.
The inn is surrounded by nearly 10 acres of land, with views of a wooded area to the north and an endless panorama of Indiana farmfields to the west.
Maintaining and improving the inn has been a way of life for Wesson for 18 years. She lives on the lower level with Rosie Boucher, who has been working at the inn for 17 years. Together, they do all the work that comes with expecting guests.
