Vote for Pate for judge on Tuesday

I am writing to recommend the election of Hans Pate as judge of Howard Superior Court 4 in the Republican primary election on May 8.

I have known Mr. Pate for approximately seven years. I was unfortunate enough to become involved in some rather difficult civil litigation some years ago. I had the good fortune to become acquainted with Mr. Pate as my attorney in that matter. Prior to meeting him, I distrusted all lawyers. After two years of litigation, I can say that Mr. Pate was a “godsend” to me. Not only did the litigation end well for me and my family, Mr. Pate “counseled” me all the way through with a level of professionalism, legal insight and integrity that earned my ultimate respect. He is not greedy or arrogant, and he respects all people.

Since then, we have become friends, and I have witnessed him interacting with his family. He is a true “family man” who cares more for his family than anything in this world.

No man has a monopoly on integrity or virtuous qualities; however, Mr. Pate does possess both. He is calm, hard working, and his word is always good. I have no doubt in my mind that Mr. Pate will serve admirably as a judge and I recommend that you vote for him without hesitation.

Linda Lafollette,

Supporting the election of Pate

I am writing to recommend the election of Hans Pate as judge of Howard Superior Court 4 in the Republican primary election on May 8.

I have know Mr. Pate since he was a student at Kokomo High School. I was the principal of Kokomo High School at that time. Mr. Pate had a good reputation as a leader back then, and his fellow classmates elected him as vice-president of his senior class.

I have remained in contact with Mr. Pate as he went off to college and law school, and I have always been impressed with his achievements.

More recently, I have utilized Mr. Pate for legal services related to estate planning and real estate law. He is a people person with a professional demeanor, and he gave me excellent legal advice. Those who know Mr. Pate well, know him to possess a good moral character and a compassionate heart, which is lacking in some judges.

Mr. Pate’s background in civil law is wide-reaching and his abilities as a deputy prosecutor have been well-documented over the years. I will rest easier knowing that a deputy prosecutor is sitting as judge.

Lastly, I believe that it is time for some fresh leaders to be elected in the courthouse. Mr. Pate is a fair and honest Christian family man and is very worthy of our vote.

As a member of the Kokomo-Center School Board, this is in no way a reflection of the thoughts or views of the KCS board. But, they are the thoughts and views of Harold W. Canady, citizen and taxpayer of Howard County.

Harold Canaday,

Kokomo

Vote for a fresh point of view

At the polls, voters are typically presented with two options. We can vote for the candidate with experience, or vote for the new candidate who has fresh ideas. The fact of the matter is what voters really want is a new candidate with fresh ideas and on-the-job experience, but we rarely have the opportunity to elect a candidate who possesses both traits.

However, in the election for Howard County auditor, we do have that opportunity. Konny Zurcher has a wealth of on-the-job experience, and she brings fresh perspective and new leadership to Howard County politics.

Konny Zurcher has worked in the Howard County Auditor’s Office for 15 consecutive years. She worked in the auditor’s office today, so she has a full understanding of all the current state mandates required of an auditor. She has also represented the auditor’s office serving as a recording secretary for the Board of County Commissioners for many years, so she is keenly aware of Howard County politics.

On top of being an experienced candidate, Konny Zurcher will bring a new voice to Howard County politics. Konny is passionate and knowledgeable about her job, and she will bring that same passion and knowledge to the auditor’s office as well. Some candidates run for a particular office solely due to being term limited in another office. This leaves us wondering if they are truly passionate about serving in the office for which they are running. We need not wonder this about Konny. She wants to serve the people of Howard County as our auditor.

In the election for Howard County auditor, I strongly encourage you to vote for experience and fresh perspective. On Tuesday, May 8, vote Konny Zurcher for auditor in the Republican primary.

Brent Smith,

Kokomo

Casting his vote for Martha Lake

I have known Martha Lake personally for many years and have a deep respect for her commitment to public service, knowledge of local government and demonstrated concern for the people of Howard County. Martha understands this community and its needs. She exemplifies the values of common sense and the Golden Rule, and for those reasons, I ask that you join me in supporting her bid for county auditor.

Martha has served Howard County diligently and honorably for the last 16 years. Her professionalism and courtesy have won her respect in the Legislature and elsewhere in state government. State leaders listen to Martha, and that is a valuable asset for the citizens of Howard County. She strives for government transparency and efficiency, and more importantly, God’s guidance in her service to the public.

Please vote for Martha Lake for county auditor on Tuesday, May 8.

Sen. Brandt Hershman,

Buck Creek

Vote Brad Bray for commissioner

Election Day is fast approaching. It is time to carefully consider our options. I think that it is time for a change.

Brad Bray has so much to offer Howard County. Most importantly, he has the enthusiasm needed to be able to work out solutions to the problems the county is now facing and the ones that will come up in the future. He has a positive outlook and would never make any derogatory comments about our community. He has worked in and for this county for several years, and will be focused on doing what is best for Howard County.

I personally know him and have worked with Brad in the coroner’s office and found him to be an extremely hard worker and believe he is the best choice for commissioner.

Tami Meyers,

Kokomo

Good people wouldn’t do this to their neighbors. This common refrain is being heard over eastern Howard County where industrial development is planned for our farmland in the form of massive wind turbines.

How fortunate, that after years of trying to bring top-notch wind energy companies to Tipton County, this great choice is here for us — just at the right time. Tipton County badly needs the revenue from clean wind farm companies.

As a taxpayer and concerned citizen of eastern Howard County, I have read some of the latest scholarly and peer-reviewed information available on industrial wind turbines. It’s not something I ever wanted to do or expected to do, and I do not pretend to be an expert even after reading much information.

More than 1,500 Hoosier children just received an early death sentence from the Indiana Legislature. By slashing the state budget for tobacco prevention and cessation by 38 percent, our lawmakers told us that the health and future of our children isn’t important.

The citizens of Howard County have watched Tipton County’s elected officials deal with growing opposition to wind farms. They have responded to the concern of their citizens and are reviewing their ordinances related to wind development.
