Most Hoosiers want health law repealed

As has been typical of Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Gregg and his genre of politicians, he took six times the column space to say less than his opponent, Republican Mike Pence.

What is it about Obamacare, er, the Affordable Care Act, that politicians aren’t seeming to get? The American people do not want it! It’s pretty simple to understand, so why spend all that effort and ink to blather on about how he is going to deal with it, in the name of the great people of Indiana, of course?

Well, at least he got that part right.

The vast majority of Indiana citizens are good people with good intentions. Kokomo is an exceptional place when it comes to politics. Thanks largely to the heavy union influence, there are a lot of Democrats to be found within our borders.

Is that bad? Not necessarily! If they are true conservatives, it doesn’t matter, because they will vote along conservative lines no matter how much guilt Democratic Party chairman Mike Ward, the Kokomo Perspective and the Kokomo Tribune lay before them.

We need people in office who will follow the will of the majority of Indiana (not just Kokomo) and the nation and fully repeal Obamacare. The health care system needs a balanced overhaul, not a government takeover.

U.S. public policy on pot is absurd

In 1974, the federal government tried to build up a case for why marijuana should continue to be illegal, but instead found that it slowed breast cancer, lung cancer and a virus-induced form of leukemia in mice. Why have these results been ignored?

Well, all further public cannabis research was ended by the federal government through either the DEA or President Ford.

Why do we tolerate our government covering up medical advances? So the legal drug companies can make profits on synthetic THC drugs that don’t work as well as real THC? Maybe.

A study in the 1990s in Spain showed that THC could eradicate a malignant brain tumor. THC selectively kills cancer cells while leaving healthy cells untouched. There are no chemo drugs this effective. Other cancers that have been treated effectively with THC are prostate, colon, pancreatic, cervical, bile, liver and stomach cancer.

By the way, in Mexico during a four-year period from the end of 2006 to 2010, there were an estimated 35,000 people killed in the war on drugs in that nation. How many in our nation?

The fact is this war on marijuana is even leading to the arrest of pro-marijuana activists. Pro-legalization activists are being arrested or cited for gathering petitions for legalization.

In Florida, a pro-marijuana legalization activist was arrested for gathering petitions. He was wrongly told he needed a permit to exercise his First Amendment rights.

The truth is our public policy on marijuana is absurd. We ignore its tremendous medical benefits and have drug gangs (that very much want to keep marijuana illegal for their own sake) fighting turf battles over market share.

It took our ancestors 12 years to end alcohol prohibition. What is our excuse with the much longer time marijuana has been prohibited?

Commissioner takes both sides of issue

Much like John Kerry several years ago, Paul Wyman seems to have actually voted for the $87 billion before he voted against it. This chap cannot seem to make up his mind on the issue of industrial wind complexes.

Let people be free; legalize use of drugs

I think it is an unfortunate display of unbridled power fueled by mistaken notions about the consequences of drug usage, production and distribution that two raids were allowed to take place in Kokomo.

    Servicemen enemies of U.S. Constitution?

One of the enduring features of our constitutional republic is the right of its citizens to know what their government is doing. The current administration has decided to develop new policies on religious tolerance in the military.

Tipton development: A study in contrasts

These are exciting times for Tipton County, with Chrysler coming to the county and bringing more than 800 legitimate jobs.

Good people wouldn’t do this to their neighbors. This common refrain is being heard over eastern Howard County where industrial development is planned for our farmland in the form of massive wind turbines.

How fortunate, that after years of trying to bring top-notch wind energy companies to Tipton County, this great choice is here for us — just at the right time. Tipton County badly needs the revenue from clean wind farm companies.

As a taxpayer and concerned citizen of eastern Howard County, I have read some of the latest scholarly and peer-reviewed information available on industrial wind turbines. It’s not something I ever wanted to do or expected to do, and I do not pretend to be an expert even after reading much information.

More than 1,500 Hoosier children just received an early death sentence from the Indiana Legislature. By slashing the state budget for tobacco prevention and cessation by 38 percent, our lawmakers told us that the health and future of our children isn’t important.

The citizens of Howard County have watched Tipton County’s elected officials deal with growing opposition to wind farms. They have responded to the concern of their citizens and are reviewing their ordinances related to wind development.
