Survey says ... let’s raise some money

Tipton library hosts “Family Feud.”

Tipton — A popular game show is being used as the basis of a fundraiser for the Friends of the Tipton Public Library.

For the sixth consecutive year, the Tipton Library is hosting its version of “The Family Feud.”

Eight teams are entered for the 6 p.m. Wednesday contest at the library. The event is open to the public at no charge, but donations will be accepted.

The format is identical to that of the game show with teams able to steal points for providing the correct answer.

Kendra Hummel, marketing coordinator for the library, said the event raised $600 in 2011.

She said each of the eight teams will compete in at least two rounds and a champion will be crowned. Last year’s winner, Waitt Trucking, is returning to defend its title.

Hummel said many of the teams come in costume. Last year, the Mageney Family won best costume honors as “Super Heroes” and plan to return as the “Final Four.”

“Autumnwood Village has competed every year as ‘The Village People,’” she said.

“Hospital employees one year competed as the ‘Records Department’ dressed in scrubs with 45 rpm records attached.”

Hummel obtains the questions and the most popular answers online and from a book with actual questions from the game show.

Larry Niervick, a member of a local theater group, serves as the host.

“We set it up just like the television set,” Hummel said. “Since we don’t have an electronic board, ‘Vanna Black’ writes the answers on a black board. Instead of a buzzer we blow a kazoo for wrong answers.”
