All travel lanes are now open to traffic on U.S. 35 between Goyer Road and a terminus east of 300 East.
Traffic has been restricted to a single lane in each direction during construction at U.S. 35 and the U.S. 31 Kokomo Corridor, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
In addition to building a new diamond interchange at the new bypass, Markland Avenue was widened. The project was completed by Walsh Construction, the state’s contractor for the bypass project.
The work also includes 3 miles on new U.S. 31 mainline and bridges at Markland Avenue, Wildcat Creek, Stahl-Shenk Ditch, Central Railroad and Sycamore.
On Monday, barricades were removed at Michael Lane where it intersects with 600 North just east of U.S. 31 in Tipton County. The opening allows easier access to several residences and a doctor’s office.
Single-lane restrictions on U.S. 31 are scheduled to be lifted on or before Dec. 1, restoring two lanes of traffic in each direction. After a bridge is constructed to span U.S. 31, 600 North will be reopened. That isn’t expected until next year.
Walsh Construction will also build 1.5 miles of mainline from north of 550 North to south of 700 North. Ramps will be constructed to connect the new freeway with the existing U.S. 31.
