Trial date set in Shipp death

Kokomo — Not guilty pleas were entered Wednesday in Howard Circuit Court on behalf of a man accused of killing 29-year-old Alex Shipp and putting his body in a freezer.

Walter Logan appeared before Judge Lynn Murray via teleconference from the Howard County jail and requested a public defender. Murray appointed one to represent Logan and set a Feb. 27 pretrial hearing and March 19 jury trial.

Kokomo police charged the 51-year-old with murder after he told police he bound Shipp’s hands and feet and his nose and mouth with duct tape after a fight, court records showed.

Logan told investigators he then fell asleep. He awoke, checked on Shipp and said he saw blood around his head and knew he was dead.

Six or seven hours later, Logan carried Shipp’s body to his basement and put it in a freezer, according to police reports.

Police were investigating a missing person case involving Shipp when they learned Logan had admitted to killing Shipp to another person.

Logan is being held without bail. If convicted, he could face up to 65 years in prison.
