Tipton — A small manufacturing company that would employ 10 to 15 people wants to move to Tipton, the head of Tipton economic development said Monday night.
Gayle Van Sessen, director of Tipton County Community and Economic Development, told the Tipton Common Council on Monday the city’s creation of a redevelopment commission would facilitate the company.
She would not release the name of the business, but she said it appears eager to lease property in the city.
The council approved on second reading an ordinance that created a commission of six members, one of whom is non-voting, to restore distressed properties and improve infrastructure for the manufacturer.
The group consists of three mayoral appointments, two city council appointments and one non-voting school board member.
“All these people are well educated,” Tipton Mayor Dan Delph said about the appointees. “I didn’t ask them [about] politics. We didn’t want to bring politics anyway.”
In other business, the council approved an amendment to an ordinance that will prohibit semis and farm equipment from driving on Green Street on the west side of downtown Tipton.
