Kokomo residents seeking some way of coping with the unimaginable loss in Newtown, Conn., are invited to stop by a front-yard memorial site set up by Kokomo residents Rick and Denise Gunning.
The Gunnings, who live at 1236 S. Ohio St., decorated a tree with 20 angels, representing the eight boys and 12 girls killed by a gunman Friday in classrooms at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
“Please find the time in your hearts to stop by and say a prayer, sign the memorial book, drop off a small stuffed animal or just a kind note of compassion,” the Gunnings asked, adding that they will not be collecting money for the victims’ families.
At 10 p.m. Dec. 31, the couple plan to gather up the memorial site and ship the items off to Newtown.
“Many Americans have been affected by this tragedy. It is our hope that we can send a small amount of comfort to the victims’ families,” they said.
“My wife has cried about it. There’s people I know who are still crying over it,” Rick Gunning said Tuesday. “We just thought it was something small we could do.”
