Though Indiana's unemployment rate for January remained 9.7 percent -- the same as it was in December 2009 -- Kokomo and Howard County's jobless rate spiked in the first month of 2010.
The state reported Wednesday the county's unemployment rate in January was 13.2 percent -- 0.9 percent higher than in December, and the eighth highest among Hoosier counties.
Kokomo's jobless rate in January was 14.4 percent -- also a 0.9 percent increase over December. Kokomo still has the third-highest rate among cities with populations above 20,000.
