230,000-gallons of diesel leak at Huntington firm

HUNTINGTON — Authorities say a containment area was able to hold about 230,000 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled at a northeastern Indiana company.

The Huntington Fire Department says the fuel leaked from an overfilled storage tank for about 2 1/2 hours at Gladieux Trading and Marketing Co. before it was discovered Thursday.

Company vice president Rasik Raval said an employee failed to shut off a transfer pump when he left work about 3:30 a.m. and that another worker found it about 6 a.m.

Fire Chief Matthew Armstrong says the dike surrounding the tank held all of the fuel and that no air problems were detected.
