Child injured in crash

6-year-old not properly restrained

A 6-year-old girl suffered severe head injuries Wednesday morning when the car she was in crashed into an SUV in Miami County.

Miami County Sheriff Deputy Jeff Williams said Lillian Hulette was a passenger in a 1998 Cadillac driven by her mother, Jennifer L. Ambrose. Lillian bore the brunt of the impact of the crash. Williams said the girl was seated in the front passenger seat with a seat belt on, but should have been in a booster seat. Use of the seat is required by law for passengers under a certain height.

Williams said Ambrose, 27, Arizona, ran a stop sign at the intersection of 900 South and 200 West and collided with a 2002 Ford Excursion. Lillian was airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne with severe head trauma.

Ambrose suffered minor injuries and was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo for treatment.

The driver of the Excursion, Richard O. Worland II, 69, Peru, was not injured.

Williams said the Cadillac was westbound on 900 West when it ran the stop sign. The Excursion was southbound on 200 West.

The accident remains under investigation.
