A food drive has been put together for Southeastern schools. The businesses in Galveston, Walton and Young America are inviting the community to help the schools gather enough food for the annual Christmas food boxes for families in need in the Southeastern School Corp. The need for help has increased this year.
Businesses will take items until Nov 30. In December, the students will begin bringing in food so they can be a part of helping their fellow students. The high school students and their various organizations will also be collecting food for the food drive.
The PTOs oversee the students’ part in the food drive and organize the distribution of the boxes.
The fourth- through sixth-grade art classes have decorated the signs for the collection boxes found in the businesses and the posters found around the communities. Any funds donated by businesses, organizations or individuals will go to buy items needed to supplement the food donated.
Food donated should be non-perishable and kid friendly, such as macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, tomato/chicken noodle soup, canned vegetables and fruit, canned pastas, instant oatmeal, cereal, etc.
Food drive business locations in Galveston are Chizzy’s, First Farmers Bank, Galveston MiniMart, Jones’ Auto Emporium, Lulu’s, Salin Bank, the post office and town hall. Locations in Walton include Country Design, Dog Shed, Salin Bank, Walton MaraMart, the Walton Public Library, the post office and the town hall. Items may also be dropped off at Mr. J’s Pizza in Young America.
For questions about the food drive, call Andrea Zeck at 574-699-6568 or Carol Lee at 574-699-6730.
