Employers’ interest in a job fair Thursday has doubled since last year.
About 70 companies had signed up as of Tuesday to participate in the Kokomo Area Spring Job Fair, said Jen Nichols, director of career services at Ivy Tech Community College. The event over the past several years has attracted about 35 companies.
Ivy Tech and Indiana University Kokomo are jointly hosting the career fair, doors for which are open to the general public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Kokomo Event Center, 1500 N. Reed Road. Students at either school may begin the fair at 10 a.m.
About 90 percent of the businesses have open positions, Nichols said, and a handful are seeking interns or volunteers.
“And they’re still being added today,” she said Tuesday afternoon. “We just added two people today.”
Companies’ doubled participation has led organizers to expect an equal increase in job seekers attending the fair.
Businesses intend to fill positions in a variety of careers and industries, including manufacturing, health care, insurance, financial planning, banking, retail and social services, among others.
