The strings of Kokomo Symphony Orchestra are singing notes to nudge at your heart strings in their Saturday production of “Strings Sing” at Morning Star Church.
Jennifer Rollins, Kokomo Symphony Orchestra executive director, said audiences can expect the sounds of strings to resonate with a wide array of emotions: touching on sadness and capturing an upbeat spirit with every note.
“The string family of instruments is the most similar to the human voice. Composers have used it in their compositions in effective ways. The famous ‘Adagio’ by Samuel Barber is one example. The composer used dense, dark harmonies and colored them with the different voices of the instruments to create a piece that moves most listeners to tears, the emotions are so deep,” Rollins said. “A different piece by David Diamond, ‘Rounds for Strings,’ is upbeat and harkens to our American fiddle tradition while getting into a groove that makes you feel happy and upbeat.”
Rollins added attending a KSO concert is enrichment for the mind and soul, and exposes ears to a cultural experience for all ages.
“KSO is entertaining, educational and supportive to the arts. The KSO provides a wonderful array of music all ages will enjoy. The conductor offers information about each piece which is very educational to all who attend,” Rollins said. “We are very fortunate to still have a local symphony orchestra in such a small town. By attending the event, you are supporting the organization and helping to keep the KSO alive in Kokomo.”
