Suspended driver crashes into porch

Kokomo — A Kokomo man, who was driving without a license Tuesday evening, faces an array of charges after he drove his car into the front porch of a south side home while fleeing police.

Carl M. Brown Jr., 32, tried to elude police when he lost control of his car near Main and Firmin streets, police reported. Police initially tried to stop Brown on a traffic violation for failure to yield.

A Kokomo Police Department accident report stated Brown was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his 2004 Chevrolet Impala. The car first struck a tree in front of a house in the 1600 block of South Main Street, then ran into the porch area of the home.

After the crash, Brown exited the car and ran from police. Responding officers located Brown a short time later hiding in some bushes in the area.

No injuries were reported.

Brown faces charges of operating while being a habitual traffic offender for life, reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance, criminal recklessness, two counts of resisting law enforcement and warrants for two counts of failure to appear and a parole violation.

Brown was on parole after being convicted of operating a vehicle while being a habitual traffic offender.
