With Christmas just around the corner, the people at Goodfellows are announcing the annual early-bird sign-ups for those in need.
The Christmas charity, started by Kokomo Tribune employees in 1911 and made up of volunteers, provides clothing to thousands of less fortunate children each year, with the majority of donations coming from WWKI’s We Care program and individual donations.
Registration for this year will 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at 1401 N. Washington St., next to Marsh. Regular sign-ups are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 26 through Nov. 30 at that same location.
The organization is seeking volunteers to help with sign-ups and shopping. For people wishing to volunteer for the sign-up process, there is an orientation program one hour prior to sign-ups Wednesday. While most of the process remains the same as last year, it’s always good to be prepared, said Jean Lushin, Goodfellows director.
After registering recipients, volunteers help shop for children at Meijer from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 16 through Dec. 20.
Last year, the charity helped more than 800 families.
