In the seven years the Greentown Public Library and Kokomo-Howard County Public Library have hosted the Howard County Reads program, they’ve never been able to bring the author of one of their selections to Kokomo.
That changes next week.
Jamie Ford, author of “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet,” will speak at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 in Havens Auditorium at Indiana University Kokomo.
Margi Bontrager, Greentown library director, said free tickets are still available at the Greentown library and all Kokomo library locations.
She said the book, which tells the story of the friendship between a Chinese American boy and Japanese American girl during World War II, has circulated well and seems to have been enjoyed.
“The comments I heard were good. I’m hoping people will go and hear him,” Bontrager said.
Trisha Shively, head of adult and teen services at the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library, said Ford’s appearance was made possible by a partnership between the libraries and the Women’s Symposium, Elizabeth Handley Estate and Indiana University Kokomo.
Copies of the book will be available to purchase for cash only at Ford’s talk. He will also sign autographs.
The last book discussion planned for Howard County Reads 2011 is set for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library main library. Those who attend are invited to bring their lunch.
