The city of Kokomo is partnering with a new local restaurant and a Web design firm in an attempt to bring startup jobs to the City of Firsts.
Da Roux House, a southern and Creole restaurant planned for 415 W. Sycamore St., and Profit Web Systems, a software development and Internet marketing company located at the Inventrek Technology Park, will each receive a $15,000, low-interest loan from the city’s Emerging Business Revolving Loan Fund, city officials announced Wednesday.
Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight called Profit Web Systems “an innovative, homegrown startup that’s already made a big impact in our community,” and said Da Roux “will bring new people to our city’s center, and encourage future development in the downtown area.”
City officials said Da Roux owner Kim Morgan will offer a “spice of life” menu, “specializing in southern, Creole, Cajun and regional flavors served in an eclectic atmosphere, with superior service, focused on customer satisfaction.”
“We are very pleased to assist Da Roux Restaurant,” city director of development Debra Cook said Wednesday. “Kim Morgan has shown innovation, enthusiasm and a deep commitment to improving our community through this exciting new business venture.”
Cook said the restaurant could open as early as mid-April.
The second city loan will help Profit Web Systems expand its customer base and create a projected 10 to 15 new jobs over the next two years.
According to city officials, Profit Web Systems offers custom Flash Web site design, hosting and maintenance, software development and e-commerce solutions.
Profit Web Systems also founded and operates www.AllKokomo.com, a Web site aimed at linking together the community through local businesses, shopping, resources and entertainment. The company’s Web page is www.profitws.com.
“Technology-based firms like Profit Web Systems are helping to transform and diversify the Kokomo economy,” Cook said. “We’re always pleased to see companies expand and add new employees, and we’re especially pleased when it’s a locally owned, technology-based company like Profit Web Systems.”
The City’s Emerging Business Revolving Loan Fund was established last year through a $50,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.
Both Profit Web Systems and Da Roux House will receive 5-year loans at a 2.5 percent interest rate, Cook said. The loans are not forgivable.
