Kokomo — The Kokomo School Board has appointed Sharene Martin-Brown to the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library Board.
Marsha Bowling, chairwoman of the selection committee, said Martin-Brown is the Kokomo High School English curriculum director and a 22-year educator. She graduated from Kokomo High School and Indiana University.
Bowling said Martin-Brown also has worked with the Kokomo Area Reading Council and is a literary agent for Wylie and Merrick Literary Agency. She is also launching a book publisher with Amprechellis E-books.
Martin-Brown replaces Gil Hendrickson, who was appointed by the school board in 2008.
In other business, the board approved emergency transfers of funds for the end of the year.
Board president Wayne Luttrell said the transfers among funds were made to allow the corporation to end the year with all funds in the black, despite not receiving $2,311,655 in delinquent taxes from Chrysler. Once the corporation receives its loan from the state Rainy Day Fund after the first of the year, Luttrell said the transfers will be reversed.
