Panel approves purchase of 2 vehicles for police

Board of Works OKs generator for wastewater plant.

The Kokomo Police Department will be purchasing two used vehicles now that the Board of Public Works & Safety awarded the bid to Button Motors.

The board approved Wednesday the purchase of a used 2012 Chrysler 200 sedan, at a cost of $17,354, and a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, at a cost of $22,359. The vehicles will be available immediately.

The board also approved the purchase of a three-phase generator for the Kokomo Wastewater Treatment Plant as required by federal regulations.

The plant is required to have an alternative power source in case of the loss of electrical power. The generator is being purchased from J&J Electric of Indiana, at a cost of $146,580.

The board took under advisement the lone bid from Kokomo Cab for the city’s First City Rider program for 2013. Kokomo Cab provides the service currently.

The city pays $3 per cab ride for the First City program, one of the few remaining subsidized cab ride programs in the state.

The city spent approximately $400,000 in 2011 for the First City Rider program and $300,000 for the City Line Trolley.
