WALTON — The town of Walton is currently finalizing plans for its annual Fourth of July Festival.
Organizers are accepting entries for the Fourth of July parade. The parade, with the theme Smalltown USA Independence Celebration, begins at 2 p.m. and line up for the parade will start at 1 p.m. in the high school parking lot. Entry forms are available at the Walton Public Library or at the Walton Freeze. Entries will be accepted through Friday.
For the first time, the parade will be announced with the reviewing stand at Country Design Beauty Shop, so entries need to be completed in detail. The expected route for the parade will be out of the school onto Ind. 218, east to U.S. 35 and south on U.S. 35. It will then turn west on South Street and north on Maple Street. The parade will end back at the school parking lot.
Entries for a talent contest are being accepted. The contest is for Southeastern School Corp. students only with age divisions of 8 to 15 and 16 to 18. Anyone interested in the contest is asked to contact Carol Woolever at (574) 626-2299 or (765) 432-0945.
Watermelon seed spitting and eating contests will be conducted in Memorial Park next to the U.S. Post Office with times to be determined.
Walton Volunteer Fire Department will conduct its annual fish fry and car show. Food will be served from 4 to 8 p.m. and the car show registration will begin at 4 p.m.
Fireworks will begin at dusk.
Space is still available for vendors and concessionaires interested in setting up on Depot Street in downtown.
