Marion National Cemetery running low on space

MARION — A national veterans cemetery in Indiana is on track to fill its allotted space in coming years.

Marion National Cemetery Director Elfrieda Robinson says slightly more than 900 grave sites are currently available. At the current rate of interment, those graves are expected to be used in two to three years.

The cemetery, east of Kokomo in Grant County, has acquired an additional 6.5 acres to be used after that. Robinson says that additional development should take the cemetery to about 2030.

Robinson says she isn’t sure what the Veterans Administration will decide to do about space but the VA will deal with the issue at the appropriate time.

The cemetery is one of 130 national cemeteries in the country.
