RUSSIAVILLE — Western School Superintendent Peter O’Rourke will propose giving teachers and staff a one-time stipend for the holidays at today’s school board meeting.
O’Rourke said teachers are working under the 2008-2009 contract, while school officials and teachers association representatives are negotiating a new contract.
IF YOU GO:
• WHAT: Western school board meeting.
• WHEN: 6 p.m. today.
• WHERE: The Western administration building.
“We don’t intend to finish that anytime soon,” O’Rourke said, because he’s still looking at 2010 revenue projections from the state and is not ready to make a commitment on raises and benefits.
O’Rourke said the one-time stipend, which he hopes to have ready before Thanksgiving if it is approved, would give employees a little something extra for the holidays.
He proposes giving administrators and directors a $1,000 stipend, while full-time employees would receive $800 and part-time employees would receive $400.
School certified
In other business, the board will receive a copy of a review of Western High School from the Quality Assurance Team, which certifies schools and colleges.
O’Rourke said Western High School “passed with flying colors” and received a five-year full certification.
The board will meet at 6 p.m. in the administration building.
