RUSSIAVILLE — The Western School Board has approved paying stipends to its employees for the holidays.
Superintendent Peter O’Rourke said the one-time payments are being given because teachers are working under the 2008-2009 contract, while administrators and teacher representatives negotiate a new contract.
Administrators will each receive a $1,000 stipend, while full-time employees receive $800 and part-time employees receive $400.
O’Rourke said the stipends will be paid out of the corporation’s general fund.
He hoped to have the payments available before Thanksgiving.
