8-year-old Greentown deer hunter shot

MOUNT ETNA -- Authorities in Northern Indiana say an 8-year-old boy was seriously wounded in the chest while deer hunting with his father.

Jacob Weaver, Greentown, was listed in serious but stable at Fort Wayne's Parkview Hospital, where he was taken after the shooting Saturday near the Huntington County community of Mount Etna.

Sheriff's Capt. David McElhaney says Jacob and his father were in a tree stand about 7:30 a.m. when the boy's foot bumped a shotgun, which slid to the floor and fired.

Police ruled the shooting an accident and said no charges would be filed.
