Bunker Hill —
A prisoner at Miami Correctional Facility was captured early Saturday after briefly escaping from the state prison, prison officials reported.
Prison officials discovered convicted robber Donald Sorrell had escaped from the medium security housing unit around 12:05 a.m.
Local law enforcement quickly searched the area and found Sorrell shortly later. He was returned to the prison and then transported to Westville Correctional Facility’s Maximum Control Unit, a press release from the prison stated.
Sorrell is serving a 20-year sentence on five convictions of robbery from Hendricks County. His earliest projected release date was Aug. 16, 2018, with maximum release date of 2028.
Sorrell could be facing an additional eight years in prison for the escape.
The facility is currently on lock-down. Authorities didn’t release any information about how Sorrell escaped or where he was captured.
Indiana Department of Correction Internal Affairs and Indiana State Police are investigating the incident.
