Twin 2-year-olds suffer from alcohol poisoning

Police charge Joel O’Bannon with felony child neglect

— Kokomo police arrested a man on two felony child neglect charges after finding a set of 2-year-old twins suffering from alcohol poisoning.

Officers were called at 6:43 p.m. Thursday to a residence on Wampum Drive after receiving an incomplete 911 call from the house.

Police responding to the area saw a vehicle run a stop sign at Tomahawk and Arrowhead boulevards and stopped the vehicle. Police quickly learned the occupants from the vehicle lived at the resident where the 911 call came from, Sgt. Doug Stout reported Friday.

Inside the vehicle, police found a 2-year-old boy unresponsive.

Police later found the second twin, a 2-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old boy at the house suffering from an unknown illness.

Both 2-year-olds were later life-lined to an Indianapolis hospital and admitted for alcohol poisoning, Stout said.

The 3-year-old was admitted to Community Howard Regional for observation.  

Police then arrested the driver of the car, Joel O’Bannon, 21, on two Class B felony charges of neglect of a dependent since he was the only adult with the children, Sgt. Stout said. O’Bannon is the boyfriend of the children’s mother.
