In what could be a first for the Howard County Republican Party, two of its members have been placed on the Indiana Republican Party’s Central Committee.
Party chairman Craig Dunn was elected Saturday as chairman in the 5th Congressional District and Judy Buck was re-elected as vice chairman in the 4th Congressional District.
There are 20 members of the state central committee with 16 elected from the state’s eight congressional district.
Dunn said Marion County has
always had two members of the state’s central committee, but Howard County will be one of the few other counties to have two representatives.
“I believe this is the first time Howard County has had two members of the central committee,” he said. “It’s the lifeblood of the Republican Party.”
The central committee plans the operation of the state party, looks at finances, and sets policy, strategy and plotting for the election.
Dunn said he believes Howard County’s two representatives on the central committee were recognition for quality work on state and national campaigns.
“We want them taking about Howard County,” he said. “We want people to know there are good things going on in Howard County in terms of the Republican Party and the economy.”
Dunn said he has been working closely with the staff of Governor Mike Pence and the Indiana’s congressional delegation in recent months.
“We’re doing it to develop the party,” he said. “It was the next step along the way. When I first ran for party chairman in Howard County, I wanted to help economic development in the county.”
