Library ready for move back home

Renovated downtown library to open in October

Kokomo — Kokomo-Howard County Public Library staff will begin moving materials into the newly renovated Main Library beginning Sept. 13, library officials announced Friday.

The renovated library building, 220 N. Union St., has been closed for the past year as the $3.4 million remodeling moved ahead.

While staff will begin the process of shifting materials, the library’s temporary location at the former Columbian School, 1234 N. Courtland Ave., will remain open through most of the transition.

Beginning Sept. 15, limited print and audiovisual materials will be available from the Columbian School location in the south portion of the gym only; patrons can access the gym from the Webster Street side.

Patrons may also return materials to this location. Public computers will continue to be available at both the South Branch, 1755 E. Center Road, and the Russiaville Branch.

Library officials urged patrons to check the website at www.KHCPL.org, or call ahead for the most up-to-date location information, at 765-457-3242.

The newly renovated library is expected to open in October, although no opening date has been set yet.
