Another man busted in sting

KPD operations has now netted 11 arrests.

Kokomo — A Peru man became the latest person to be arrested in an ongoing police undercover sting targeting prostitution in Kokomo.

According to police reports, officers arrested Matthew C. Steele, 23, at 5:38 p.m. Wednesday after he arrived at an area hotel offering to pay money for sex.

Steele faces a Class A misdemeanor patronizing a prostitute, which is punishable by up to a year in jail.

Kokomo police began targeting prostitution earlier this year. Since the operation began, police have arrested 11 people — seven men and four women — all on misdemeanor charges.

Detective Tonda Cockrell said the suspects learned of the sexual activities through an adult website.

Of those arrested, one has been convicted so far, according to court records.

Amanda Huddleston, 23, who arrested Tuesday, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Howard Superior Court 3 to a Class A misdemeanor prostitution charge and was sentenced to one year of probation.

The others cases are pending.

Police declined to release the name of the hotel because owners have cooperated with police and were not involved in any illegal activity, Cockrell said.
