Beware of solicitors

Harassment reported by residents.

Kokomo — Kokomo police are warning residents about solicitors trying to break into people’s homes.

Maj. Brian Seldon said there have been some complaints of door-to-door solicitors/peddlers recently in Kokomo.

Several people on Kokomo Tribune’s Facebook page have reported that a man claiming to be a salesman tried to force his way into their home.

Solicitors and peddlers in Kokomo must have a valid license from the City of Kokomo, said Seldon.

All peddlers/solicitors peddling or soliciting goods for profit are required to have a City of Kokomo Ordinance Badge on their person. The badge includes a photo of the solicitor or peddler, the business/corporation name, permit number, issue and expiration date of their permit. The licenses are received from the City of Kokomo Police Department Records Unit and are good for 90 days. These licenses entitle the solicitors to peddle or solicit goods or services from house-to-house in the City only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Solicitors/Peddlers for not-for-profit agencies are not bound by this ordinance.

Please contact the Kokomo Police Department at 765-459-5101, if you suspect someone is soliciting unlawfully.
