Viral video: Clerk punches would-be robber

A clerk at a gold-buying store in North Carolina punched a would-be robber in the face Friday, knocking the man out after he barged in with a gun and demanded money.

Surveillance video shows the robber, identified by police as 25-year-old Mostafa Hendi, entering the We Buy Gold store wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt. He approached the clerk, Derek Mothershead, and demanded money.

Mothershead took a zippered pouch and began to hand it to the robber with his right hand, then punched the thief with his left hand.

The robber was knocked out, and Mothershead held him down with one hand and called 911 with the other, according to WYFF 4.

"At the time you really don’t think you hit somebody as hard as you do, but looking back at the tape I can say I hit him pretty hard, I guess," Mothershead told the station.

Hendi was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, WYFF said.
