Harold J. Yager

May 6, 1917 - Oct. 31, 2012

Harold J. Yager, 95, Kokomo, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, in Fairmont Rehabilitation, Kokomo. Born May 6, 1917, in Howard County, he was the son of the late Clarence J. Yager and Ersie (Grinslade) Yager. On Oct. 13, 1939, in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kokomo, he married Isabel J. Knight. She preceded him in death on May 8. 2004.  

He was employed in the shipping department at Haynes Stellite for 36 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and the Stellite Quarter Century Club. He was also an avid stamp and coin collector.

Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Sue Yager, Kokomo; two sisters Marjorie Guerre, Kokomo, and Rozella  Ellington, Lexington, Ky. There are also three grandchildren  Mark Yager, Brenda (Tom) Hopkins, and Chris (Amanda) Yager;  seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Ashley, Jacob, Shelby, Hannah, Breanna, and Tyler; four great-great-grandchildren, Adriannah, Kaitlyn, Jazmyn, and Keegen; also several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Frederick T. Yager; two brothers, Herbert Yager and Wilson Yager; and one sister, Doris Jamison.  

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel. Chaplain Brent Kirby will officiate. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, with envelopes available at the mortuary.
