Georgia Merchant Day, 94, Arcadia, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at her home.
She was born March 19, 1918, in Brook, to Jay and Laura (Carpenter) Merchant. She was a 1936 graduate of Brook High School, then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from Purdue University in 1940. She taught home economics and health classes at Rensselaer, Galveston, Richmond, Jackson Central and Hamilton Heights high schools.
Georgia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cicero, Indiana State Teachers Association, and a 50-year member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority. She had been a 4-H leader at Arcadia for 23 years.
She married Fred Vincent Day on Aug. 14, 1948. He preceded her in death July 27, 1996. Her parents and an infant daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Day, also preceded her in death.
Surviving her are three sons, Fred Lee Day of Leiters Ford, Dan Day of Noblesville and Ben Day of Arcadia; a sister, Martha Noel of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Allison Tusing,
Michelle Stevens and Debbie Coburn, Indianapolis, and David Day, Cicero; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cicero. Burial will follow at Cicero Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Homes, Cicero Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cicero or St. John’s Hospice, 2015 Jackson St., Anderson, IN, 46016-4339.
