Wayne Hornbeck

Oct. 22, 1929 - Oct. 20, 2012

Wayne Hornbeck, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012. He was born Oct. 22, 1929 in an old farmhouse in Royal Center to godly parents who loved God and his church. He was told that the first place his parents took him was to church. So he grew up attending church almost every time the doors were open.

His childhood was one that any young boy would dream of; loving parents that were always there when he needed them. They lived on a farm, with plenty of space and all that goes with country living.

At the age of 9, he was converted and baptized in their local church and began his journey with Christ. In his junior year of high school, he felt God’s call to the ministry. There were several preachers in his father’s family. He tried to dismiss the calling at first as a fad, but that feeling of God’s call never changed and it hadn’t even until the time of his passing.

He has served as evangelist, pastor and teacher in various areas and States for many years. One of the most memorable experiences in his years of ministry was the last eight years before he so-called retired. He was called to start and pastor a senior adult ministry for Oakford Baptist Church (Crossroads Community Church, now one of the largest in the community) where he was living in Kokomo. God blessed him in such a wonderful way, far above his abilities or even his expectations. He was still reaping God’s blessings for that endeavor.

After retiring from the ministry and 20 years of teaching/administrative duties in the secondary educational school system, he was living in beautiful, sunny Florida, where he was a member and devoted to the ministries of the McGregor Baptist Church.

He is survived by his children, Debra J Hawkins, David W. Hornbeck, Timothy Lynn Hornbeck and Rebecca A. Willis.

There will be a celebration of life for Wayne Hornbeck at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crossroads Community Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crossroads Community Church. Friends and family my visit Wayne’s online guestbook at indiana
