Violet May Poff Kaufman

June 14, 1925 - Oct. 24, 2012

Kokomo — Violet May Poff Kaufman, 87, Timbercrest, North Manchester, passed away at 6:10 p.m Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012. She was born June 14, 1925 to Chester Poff and Hazel A. Frick Poff in the house where her great-grandparents had lived on Wallick Road, Peru. She married Raymond Kaufman Nov. 14, 1946. He died Jan. 16, 2012. They had been married 63 years.

She graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1944.

They had two children, Wayne E. Kaufman, who was killed Feb. 14, 1970 in Vietnam, and Sharon (Scott) Curtis, Highland.

She was a 75-year member of the Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren. Her church friends meant so much to her. She was a Sunday School teacher, went to Camp Mack as a Junior Leader, was president of the Women’s Work, served on the South Central Cabinet and served with Raymond on the Deacon Board. She was a member of the Gold Star Mothers Inc. and was department president for two terms. She was the Peru chapter president, serving until its closure. She enjoyed baking cookies and wedding cakes for family and friends. She and Raymond moved to Timbercrest in 2006.

Survivors include Sharon; two grandsons, Stephen (Aliya) Curtis and Nathan Curtis; two great-granddaughters, Alyssa Curtis and Casandra Curtis; special friends Linda Henry Houser and family; and all of the Fry family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond; two brothers, Raymond (Lois) Poff and Harold (Josephine) Poff; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday at the Allen Funeral Home, Bunker Hill. Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren with Pastor Ed Johnson officiating.

Memorial may be made to Timbercrest, Visiting Nurse Hospice, or the Pipe Creek Church.
