Walter “Big Apple” Murphy, 61, Kokomo, passed away at 8:52 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Health. He was born Jan. 20, 1951, in Kokomo, to the late Lawrence and Virginia (Hunter) Murphy. On Dec. 7, 1996, he married Diana Rose Bond-Murphy. Mrs. Bond-Murphy survives.
Walter worked as a custodian for Chrysler Transmission Plant for 31 years until retiring. He was a member of the Kokomo VFW and the UAW Post 685. Walter enjoyed golf, softball, pool and eating pizza. He was very proud of his rumble bee truck. Not only did Walter love his family and friends, but he thoroughly loved his two Jack Russell Terriers, Peyton Manning Murphy, and Moxie Murphy. Walter will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving is his wife Diana; one son, Brad (Theresa) Murphy, Kokomo; one granddaughter, Sydney Murphy, Kokomo; one brother, Ralph Murphy; several loving nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceded in death are his parents; four brothers, Donald Murphy, Eddie Murphy, Richard Murphy and James Murphy; three sisters, Catherine Dillman, Shirley Lytle, and Josephine Dillman.
Due to Walter’s request, there will be no public services.
Memorial contributions in Walter’s memory made be made to the Kokomo Humane Society, We Care and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
