Donald E. York

Nov. 4, 1926 - Jan. 23, 2013

Donald Eugene York, 86, West Lebanon, passed away at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. Don was born in Pence, in Warren County, on Nov. 4, 1926. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Gladys (Davan) York. On June 5, 1948, Don married Betty L. Brown in West Lebanon Christian Church.

He was raised in Warren County, graduating from Williamsport High School. He received a degree in electronics from DeVry University.

Don owned and operated Don’s TV Shop in West Lebanon, where he repaired radios and televisions along with installing aerial towers. After moving to Kokomo in 1967, Don worked for Delco Electronics until his retirement in 1988.

Following retirement, Don and Betty moved to Sebring, Fla., and lived there until moving to Williamsport in 2003. While living in Sebring, Don was a member of Sebring Christian Church and was a member of West Lebanon Christian Church at the time of his death.  

Following school, Don entered the service and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Don enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling and bowled in leagues in Kokomo and Sebring. Don still maintained his love of working on televisions and radios.

Don leaves behind his wife of 64 years and two daughters, Deborah (Brad) Johnson, Williamsport, and Karen (John) Hughey, Tipton; three brothers, Lloyd (Nancy) York, Williamsport, Tom (Gloria) York, Athens, Ill., and Jim (Sharon) York, Rossville, Ill.; a sister, Marge Peterson, Williamsport; two sisters-in-law, Lois Worley and Marlene Synesael, both of West Lebanon; five grandchildren, Jason (Janeen) Shoffner, Lisa (Scott) Wiley, Diana (Jason) Howe, twins Linsey (Jeff) Melander and Erin (Mike) Cassner; and eight great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time at 6 p.m. Friday at West Lebanon Christian Church, with Pastor Bruce Thornsbrough officiating. Burial will be in West Lebanon Cemetery at a later date.
