Patrick F. Collins

Patrick Collins, 77, Kokomo, died at 2:10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born Dec. 30, 1935, in Kokomo, the son of Paul F. and Naomi (Miller) Collins. On Feb. 11, 1956, he married his wife of 57 years, Barbara A. Miller, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. She survives him.

Pat was a 1953 graduate of Kokomo High School and attended St. Joseph College for a year. An entrepreneur, as he had his hand  in several business ventures. He owned and operated Collins Music Inc., which consisted of installing jukeboxes, pool tables and games in taverns from 1954 to 1970. Then, after renovating the closed Hoosier Iron Works factory, he founded Collins Industrial Warehouse, which he ran from 1970 to 1992. He was a partner in Ace Music Co Inc. from 1978 to 2010. He was the owner of Ace Sign Co. with his daughter Kathi from 1981 until his death. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and attended grade school there. His memberships also included the M.A.R.S. club and the Kokomo Stamp Club. Pat was an avid ham radio operator, his first call letters being K9BJN and second one was W9BTX. He loved to fish and enjoyed gardening as well.  

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Jeffery (Diana) Collins, Kokomo, Karen (Dale) Lewis, Kokomo, Michael (Angie) Collins, Indianapolis, and Kathleen ‘Kathi’ (Steven) Stewart, Greentown; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Don Wappel, Kokomo; and several stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jane Collins; son, Gary Collins; and grandchild, Andrew Collins.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St. Kokomo, with the Rev. Father Tony Roland serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home and Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo. A scripture service has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Contributions may be made in Pat’s memory to St. Patrick Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association, with envelopes available at the funeral home. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
