Peggy A. Simpson

Jan. 8, 1929 - Nov. 9, 2012

Peggy A. Simpson, 83, Kokomo, passed away on Nov. 9, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo. She was born on Jan. 8, 1929, in Kokomo, to Glenn and Hazel (Hutson) Goldsberry Hockett. Peggy married Lee R. Simpson on Jan. 22, 1956, and he passed away on Jan. 21, 1997.

Peggy was a 1946 graduate of Kokomo High School. She retired as secretary for the Howard County Sheriff Department after 18 years. Peggy and Lee were co-managers of the Izaak Walton League. She also was the secretary at Riley School in Kokomo. She was a State Life member of PTA and past president of the Howard County Council of PTA, Kokomo senior citizen, member of Ladies Auxiliary of Elks No. 190, member of the Eagles and charter member of Kokomo Alzheimer’s Association. She loved reading, doing puzzles, ceramics, sewing, loved family time, baking cookies and pumpkin pies.

Survivors are her children, Roger Simpson, Linton, Terri (Charles) Love, Kokomo, Robert Rinearson, Odessa, Texas, Gerry (Kathy) Simpson, Sharpsville, Michael (Christine) Simpson, Kokomo, Sue Scalf, Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Hazel Goldsberry; husband, Lee R. Simpson; son, Billie G. Harrison; grandson, Travis R. Simpson; brother, Robert Goldsberry; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Goldsberry; and stepfather, Arlie Hockett.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville Chapel, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with one hour of calling prior to the funeral service, with Pastor Terry Russell officiating. Burial will be at North Union Cemetery in Kokomo. Calling was 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Peggy’s wishes are, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Travis R. Simpson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
